Top 5 Myths About Timeshares

March 6, 2019

1. Timeshares are an expensive way to holiday
The truth is that timeshare vacations are about getting more value for your vacation dollars. Over time, you can save a significant amount of money with a timeshare program as opposed to a regular vacation. Consider all the money you save by cooking and doing laundry inside your timeshare unit while on vacation. According to ARDA and the U.S. Travel Association, you can save more than $25,000 over a 20-year period.

2. Timeshare owners have to go back to the same place year after year
Absolutely not true. Timeshare exchange programs put the world at your fingertips. In most cases, you can exchange your timeshare unit for another unit in a different resort at an alternate time with a timeshare exchange company like RCI or other exchange networks.

3. "I can't get the exchanges I want"
If you plan accordingly and are realistic about the exchange power of your timeshare, you should have no problem getting the exchange you want. Use your timeshare to its fullest potential and visit RCI to see all the travel options available.

4. Maintenance fees are expensive and a rip-off
You actually have your maintenance fees to thank for a clean, maintained timeshare unit that features upgraded appliances and amenities like pool slides and manicured grounds. In the long run, even with maintenance fees, timeshares are still more affordable than hotels for vacations.

5. Timeshares should be an investment
Timeshares are meant to be used, and you should not expect to sell yours for the same price or for more than you paid for it. When you buy a timeshare, you should be clear on the usage rights and term of "ownership".
